I received an email over the weekend from my web provider. Something fishy seems to be going on. That or I am just confused. I emailed 1&1 to figure it out.

Dear David Kugler,
you have already used 90% of your included monthly traffic of 5000 MB (5.00 GB).
Shortly after reaching 100%, your Website will be automatically locked.
Associated services will be deactivated and your Website will no longer be available online.

You can remove the lock by entering your credit card details on the Control Panel.

To enter your credit card details, proceed as follows:
- log in to http://admin.1and1.com
- click on “My Account” on the upper menu bar
- then on “Change Credit Card Details” under “User Data”
- and enter your valid credit card details.

Please note that it can take up to 12 hours to release the lock after updating your details in the Control Panel.

Traffic above and beyond the free volume will be charged at the price shown on our Website.

Please note that you can check your current traffic usage in the Control Panel at any time, as well as set your own cost limit.

Yours sincerely,
1&1 Internet Team

So what is using up my bandwidth? Answer: I don’t know! Here are a couple of conflicting images that confuse me; they are taken from either 1&1 or Google Analytics’ web statistics. They are obviously calculating visitors differently, to me it appears that 1&1 tracks bots (perhaps those that crawl my domain) as visitors. Anyway, email sent and I will await a reply.
